The Tool Collectors role is to respond to requests from members of the public to collect tools they have to donate and to store them ready for the TWAM van to collect. There is considerable flexibility in this role timewise as collections can be made at any time which is agreed between you and the donor so can be any day or time agreed.
Typical tasks may include
Taking calls and emails from members of the public and arranging collection times
Driving to collect tools from people and bringing them back to your storage area
Arranging collections from the TWAM vans
If you are not able to, or prefer not to drive, there is the option to be a drop point which works in a similar way but the tool donor brings the tools to you.
You should have a friendly and welcoming personality as you will be the face of TWAM to members of the Public. You need to enjoy driving and be happy to travel reasonable distances. You also need to be reasonably physically fit as the loads of tools can be heavy. Finally, you need to be reasonably organised to ensure that you check emails regularly and respond to these and telephone requests and can sort out your schedule around any other commitments you have.
We provide an induction to the role which may be either over the phone, electronically or in person and a volunteer handbook on starting. You will have a named contact within TWAM for any questions or problems and further training can be provided as required. You will also be given a TWAM Polo Shirt and fleece to wear and an ID card if required.
From the role, you will gain a warm satisfaction at the difference you are making to people’s lives. You will also have opportunities if you wish to learn new skills. We will provide a reference if required for a future employer or other organisation
